Inha University has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's Future Space Education Center project and will start researching key space technologies and fostering talent.
Through the operation of the Future Space Education Center, Inha University is planning to train space experts and upgrade and diversify core technologies of domestic lunar probes scheduled to be launched in 2030 for technological advancement. In addition, it has been selected as a joint research institute in the field of space transport technology and is the only Korean university to participate in the project of the Future Space Education Center in two fields.
The Future Space Education Center will train 45 master's and doctorate-level professionals every year with a total of 11.8 billion won, including 5 billion won in state funds and 5 billion won in subsidies from Incheon over the next five years. It has also established a cooperative system with state-run research institutes such as the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, the Korea Polar Research Institute, and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Through industry, academia, research, and government collaboration, it will start research and development of world-class space core technologies such as autonomous precision navigation technology necessary for exploring moon poles, and lunar rovers to mine water resources buried on the moon.
