Geoinformatic Engineering
HomepageIntroduction
The Department of Geoinformatic Engineering was founded in 1994 as the first university-level program in Korea. Geoinformatic engineering provides the technical and practical basis for advanced technologies ranging from collection, analysis, management, and application of spatial information that is crucial for social infrastructure construction/planning, monitoring of Earth environment, navigation, and a rapidly expanding range of personal location-based technology. The geoinformatic engineering program emphasizes professional and practical aspects by providing interdisciplinary courses including geographic information system(GIS), remote sensing, surveying and photogrammetry, and global positioning system(GPS).
Talent
Program Goals
The educational goal of the department is the cultivation of competent engineers, who will lead the development and application of high-level geoinformatic engineering technology in the wide range of fields including industries, academia, and government. Graduates of the department will have the ability to solve real-world geoinformatic engineering problems by combining creativity, comprehensive knowledge, and practical engineering skills.
Vision after Graduation
After graduation, students may find employment as IT engineers, system engineers, GIS specialists and project managers in private sectors. A number of students continue their studies as research scientists and work at many government-issued research institutes. Recently, an increasing number of students have become central and local government officers, engineers of public corporations (Korea Cadastral Survey Corporation, Korea Land Corporation, Korea Land & Housing Corporation).
